Hey readers,
Welcome back to Tuesday's Takeaways!
This week our Top 5 Quotes are about some famous literary and historical figures!
  • Takeaway trivia of the week: What do most playwrights, epic poets, and revered writers today have in common?

"Sometimes it feels like I care too much.
Like I walk around with the
Midas touch.
Gift and a curse.
Turning everything into something precious and malleable."

-Anya Supernova, Taking the Scenic Route

"I pray my daughters will not feel the wrath of misogyny.
We continue to walk the road paved by
Susan B. Anthony,
But one hundred eleven years later and I still wonder if I am safe to walk streets alone."
- a.a., Ahmed

"We wanted it to be lowkey but it ended up being the talk of the town
because the
Capulets don’t associate with the Montagues.
Romeo and Juliet never had the happy ending they wanted.
They were the perfect match, but matches burn."

-Emily Shrem, Goodbye For Now

"Blue is the turbulent crashing sea of Moby Dick,
and the placid, pale waters of
a babbling brook."

-Alana Silberg, Infinite Blue

"I am Rosa Louise McCauley Parks
And my place is in the History books
Because I am a powerful Black woman"

-Shadae Brown, Who Am I? I Am a Woman of Color

And now...
Most of them went unrecognized in their time! There are, of course, a few exceptions but most revered writers whose works we praise today were totally ahead of their time!

Next week's theme is going to be about mental health.
Make sure to stay tuned! <3

Hey readers,
Welcome back to Tuesday's Takeaways!
As today is National Orchid Day, we thought it appropriate to make this week's Top Quotes about flowers.
  • Takeaway trivia this week: What flower has the smallest seeds in the world?
"It’s flowers that don’t get watered because it’s better if they wilt."
-Merna Ibrahim, The Dangers of Nostalgia

"In my home town as kids
we would sit in a circle
and make bracelets
out of these flowers."
-Merari Hernandez, Wishing Flower

these are...
"flowers of ink
[that] pour burning love
onto each skull."

-Anthony Sepulveda, The Flower’s Dream

"[but] you hope the color of our petals
will brighten your sallow complexion."

-Asia Acevedo, Ophelia’s Bouquet

now:
"Everything is flowers in the ICU,
they hang from the rafters, gird the walls
they grow up from the grime on the marble line floor,
they pluck themselves and waft in the recycled air"

- Joshua Avin, My Dad and Modest Mouse

"Instead of growing a garden,
I left a trail of dead and damaged flowers. I’m sorry I planted seeds in all of you, I’m sorry for not saving them when it was still within my power."

-Edmund Z, Withered

"Now I give all my love to thorns.
They aren’t unfaithful like the flower.
They won’t slowly rot and change colors.
They will always be there. As they were."

-Miss Malik, Thorns
How do you feel about flowers? Let us know!

And now...
Certain orchids that grow in tropical rain forests called epiphytic orchids contain seeds that are only 1/300th of an inch long, and are very transparent, making them essentially barely visible to the unaided human eye.

Hey readers,
Welcome back to Tuesday's Takeaways!
This week the Top Quotes' theme is lies!
  • Takeaway trivia of the week: Do you know what aspect of a liar's eyes will give them away?
"Heaven is hopeless
And hidden from view
And I don’t know
How to help it
Because I’ve been a sinner
For as long as I’ve known
That lying
Tastes good on the tongue"
-Kate Podias

"Purple prose flees my fingers but it is only running away from the white whispers in my head.
The lies of my dreams, the exodus of rationality"
-Mic Braun, Purple Prose

"I don’t believe a single phrase that falls from those beautiful lips."
-Tonsor Mal, Be Patient

"My forked tongue slips between my teeth to turn a calculated cacophony into honey along my berry-boisterous lips
. . .
My forked tongue spits into my mirrored face as I whisper with false sincerity,
That I am the most luminous star
I know I am a soiled girl."
-Samantha Paucar, Nice Enough Girl and Her Cheap Tears

And now...
It's their pupils! It's a widespread belief is that liars have shifty eyes, but that's actually not true. When a person is lying their pupils will dilate!

Next week's theme is going to be about flowers.
Make sure to stay tuned! <3

Hey readers,
Welcome back to Tuesday's Takeaways!
This week our Top Quotes are about the fluttering beauties we call butterflies... both in our stomachs and in nature!
  • Takeaway trivia this week: Do caterpillars lose their memories when they undergo metamorphosis?
In the meantime let's get to our favorite quotes!
 "I look to the sunrise
Only to find myself
Wrapped in a cocoon of worry"
-Kathleen Conlon, Vampires at Dawn

"but you, still cocooned in your hopes
are shielded from failure knocking at your door,
mocking kisses from the gods"
-Mic Braun, seasonal kisses

"Did you know, most butterflies can only live for two weeks?
When I found this out, it all began to make sense
because I often found myself throwing up dead ones."
-Izaura Danilova, Sorry if my forever isn't what you thought it would be.

"they say a chrysalis is simply a mess of muck, the collapse of a life in the pause before a butterfly"
-Sarah Einav, A Lesson in Resilience

"so your toes grow petals,
and your legs are stalks,
and butterflies and ladybugs go free
from the earth of your chest"
-Joshua Avin, My Dad and Modest Mouse

"You gave me butterflies when you came into my life, and when you left I felt them die and now they’re sitting here, giving me this sickening feeling I never signed up for"
-Emily Shrem, goodbye for now

"Her bosom opens cages to let her soul fly.
She was a caterpillar trapped in a cocoon,
Until she broke free of her insecurities. "
-Sammie King, SHE IS IMAGO DEI
Can you relate to any of these? Do you get butterflies reading these quotes? Let us know in the comments!
And now...
Although some caterpillars convert their entire body into a sort of gooey substance when undergoing transformation, researchers at Georgetown University proved that moths can retain at least some of the memories they had when they were caterpillars, meaning that the neurons that store their memories survive the enzyme digestive process that converts the rest of their body. Interestingly enough, this was only possible when the caterpillars were trained close to the time of their metamorphosis.
