Hey readers,
Welcome back to Tuesday's Takeaways!
This week our Top Quotes are centered around colors!
  • Takeaway Trivia of the week: Did you know that there is an entire branch of psychology dedicated to understanding how colors make us feel? Can you guess which color is calming and intellectually stimulating?
We've had a lot of submissions with colors in them, so it was hard to narrow it down to just 5!
That being said, here are our Top 5 Quotes on colors:
"We can all heal
And bloom like a red carnation"
-Bloom Yuki, Heal

"Blue is the turbulent crashing sea of Moby Dick, and the placid, pale waters of
a babbling brook
Blue is Picasso’s grief
Blue is weakness
Blue is strength
Blue beckons man into the infinite"
-Alana Silberg, Infinite Blue

"A girl looks up
Green eyes framed by lilac
A girl looks up
Blue eyes framed by cedar"
-Teresa Wrobleski, August 17th

"This all started because you looked at
me with that stupid smile.
That pearly white smile on that beautifully mocha face"
-Miles Mercer, 3:14 AM

"In the black hole of your smile
Dark matter of your spirit
Spiraling hug of your light"
-Gregory Santiago, In the Scent of Dusty Libraries
And now...
It's the color blue! Studies have also shown that blue is associated with loyalty and safety. Does blue have these connotations for you?

Did you relate to any of our Top 5 Quotes?
Let us know in the comments!

Next week's theme is going to be about metamorphosis.

Hey readers,
Welcome back to Tuesday's Takeaways!
As the weather gets warmer and we reach official spring season, we decided to form our favorite Top Quotes into a letter acknowledging Spring!
  • Takeaway Trivia this week: Is Spring Fever real? (We are certainly starting to feel it!) And what silly myth regarding the spring equinox has been proven false?
A LETTER TO SPRING:
This is what you are to me:

"The site of rain and sun and tranquility."
-Allina Khan, STORM OF THE MASSES

I'm eagerly awaiting for you to re-enter into my life soon. When you do,
"Bring me sunshine.
Bring me your withered petals,
Bring me your blooming daisies."

-Samantha Merzel, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

Because-
"Being with you simply made me happy,"

-Emily Shrem, GOODBYE FOR NOW

"Like when I tasted hope for the first time [and]
It came in the form of sunshine."

-Jada Gordon, All I Know Has Been Rewritten

Since you have last been here:
"I’ve discovered a place...
Where the fragrant breeze wafts in,
Lavender, Honey, Lilacs
The warmest of springs."

-Melissa Louis, A Warm Winter

And even though winter seems long, I know that:
"...at the end
A glistening amount of sunshine
A rainbow full of glorious colors shines
On my face
On the world"

-Diana Ariel Harman, THE PERFECT STORM

Are you awaiting spring just as much as us? Comment below to let us know!
And now...
"Spring fever" is a term referring to both psychological and physiological symptoms that show up in accordance with the arrival of Spring. One of the reasons scientists believe it is a real condition is due to increased light, more exercise and more bare skin in these months influencing hormone levels. The exact cause remains unclear, so for now it's as real as you make it!

As for the myth:
It was thought that balancing an egg on its end is possible on the spring equinox. The truth is, aiming to balance an oval-shaped object on its end (especially one that can easily crack!) is no easier on the spring equinox than it is on any other day of the year!

-Sammie King, She is Imago Dei

Do any of these quotes remind you of women you know and love? Comment below to let us know!

And now...
The term "Me Too" was coined by Tarana Burke. A survivor of sexual assault, she wanted to create a space for women and girls of color who had survived sexual violence so that they could voice their experiences.

Hey readers,
Welcome back to Tuesday's Takeaways!
  • Takeaway trivia of the week: Which city in New York tried making snow illegal?  And are snowflakes actually scientifically unique?

What images come to mind when you think of winter? Here are some Top Quotes to ponder while warm and bundled up (and maybe drinking your favorite hot cocoa or tea!)
1.
"Outside, the wind whispered softly, like a friend just passing through. The snow drifted down in lazy flakes and the trees were nests of black and white lines."
-Algonquin Jones, Something Called A Storm

2.
"Cascades of revelation
tempestuous times abound
Being freezes"
-Dante Baudelaire, Travel

3.
"They heard the cold outside, singing sweetly now, perhaps the only song existing in the world."
-Romel Martinez, The Shakespeare Pages

4.
"I notice how the ice lessens
How the snow dances beneath my feet
The gentle glow, a misting blow"
 -Melissa Louis, A Warm Winter

5.
"The world outside was pale, the earth’s crust hidden beneath a blanket of fluffy snow draped over the landscape."
-Roksana Jasiewicz, The Blizzard Lurker

6.
"It’s like hazy days; taking foggy skies with hail and sleet
presumed to bring moisture to your eyes
reveling in the abrupt storm looking anew."
-Mary Halabani, 3AM Highlights

Comment below if any of these quotes resonated with you in this blistering cold weather!
And now...
One of New York's snowiest cities, in March of 1992 the city of Syracuse's Common Council declared that any more snow before Christmas Eve was illegal. Despite their cute tactics, it snowed just days later.

As for snowflakes being unique, that was negated in 1988, when Nancy Knight, a scientist at the National Center for Atmosphere Research in Colorado, discovered two identical snowflakes that blew in during a Wisconsin storm.

Next week's theme is going to be in honor of Women's History Month.
